Please bring to the audition:
- One small non-returnable photo (school or passport size).
- $15 audition fee (cash or check made payable to Princeton Girlchoir).
- A water bottle.
- An optional letter of recommendation from your music teacher emailed to auditions@princetongirlchoir.org.
For the audition, students should be prepared to:
- Sing "America the Beautiful" a
capella from memory
(only grades 5-9). A PDF file of the music is available for
downloading on this
page. Girls going into grades 10-12 will sing a song of their
choosing.
- Sing "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" first alone and then as a round.
- Sing scales with "do, re, mi, fa, so, la, ti, do" or as "la."
- Echo sing tonal patterns played on the piano.
- Sing the highest or lowest sound when two notes are played on the piano (highest, middle or lowest note heard when three notes are played together for grades 5 and up).
- Sight read a simple piece of music (grades 7 and up).
Helpful Hints for an audition:
- Be on time! Arrive at least 15 minutes before the appointment to allow time to find the audition area and to not be rushed.
- Good posture will help breath control. Keep knees relaxed.
- Open your mouth and relax your jaw.
- Take time to breathe deeply. This will settle you down before the start of your audition.
- Know the song by memory.
- Relax and have a good time!
The Choirs
All choirs have weekly rehearsals. In
addition, there are some weekend rehearsals depending on the choir
level. There are two major concerts in which each choir
participates.
Rehearsals take place at Princeton Day School
located on The Great Road in Princeton. (Directions can be found at www.pds.org, click on
Admissions and then Directions.)
Grace Notes
Introductory choir (grades 3-5)
Rehearsals are on Tuesdays from 5:45-7:00 p.m.
Annual fee $670
Semi-Tones
Intermediate choir (grades 5-7)
Rehearsals are on Tuesdays from 6:00-7:30 p.m.
Annual fee is $700
Concert Choir
Primary choir (grades 7-9)
Rehearsals are on Mondays from 6:15-8:30 p.m.
Annual fee is $865
Cantores
Advanced choir (grades 10-12)
Rehearsals are on Sundays
Annual fee is $840
