CANTORES

Founded in 2004, Cantores (CA) promotes the highest level of artistic achievement in choral performance for young women in grades 10 through 12. Now in its third year of celebrating musical excellence, Cantores is the newest component of the Princeton Girlchoir. Founded in 2004, Cantores promotes the highest level of artistic achievement in choral performance for young women in grades 10 through 12.

The choir has performed throughout the tri-state area and has given complete classical concerts of Giovanni Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater and Francis Poulenc’s Litanies à la vierge noire. In addition, members of the choir perform all genres and periods of music which include gospel, jazz, collegiate a cappella, rock and minimalist with most recent performances for the New Jersey Governor at Drumthwacket and with soul singer, Ricky Fanté, of EMI Records in New York City.

The choir maintains a highly structured environment and personal discipline with one weekly two-hour rehearsal. Selection into the choir is based on vocal skills, musicianship, and attitude. Each chorister’s development of performance skills through quality and diverse choral literature enrich the overall mission of Cantores: to enhance vocal development, increase sight-singing skills, and develop musicianship and musical sensitivity in an environment of teamwork and heart.

Time commitment expectations for all Concert Choir choristers include:

  • 2-hour weekly rehearsals Sundays (2:00 pm to 4:00 pm) at the Presbyterian Church of Lawrenceville
  • participation in special workshops (generally 1-2 per year)
  • periodic individual evaluations throughout the year
  • pre-concert rehearsals
  • winter and spring concerts
  • additional concerts and choral collaborations as opportunities arise
