CONCERT CHOIR

Focusing more on performance, the Concert Choir (CC) continues the fine work accomplished in the two training choirs, including work on proper vocal technique, with attention to the “changing voice” of the early adolescent female. Emphases are proper breathing, development of a free and natural sound, the continued study of Solfege to improve musicianship and sight-reading skills, and mastering choral repertoire of many different styles, languages and cultures.

The Concert Choir has had exciting opportunities over the years, including two appearances on NBC’s Today Show and performance at Avery Fisher Hall with composer/conductor Tan Dun, cellist Yo-Yo Ma, and the American Boychoir.

A summer tour is also part of the Concert Choir experience and has taken the girls to places like Ireland, Oregon, Italy, France, Spain, England, Germany, the Czech Republic, Newfoundland, and Hawaii as an individual choir "performance tour" or through participation in music festivals with some of the world’s leading children’s choir directors.

Time commitment expectations for all Concert Choir choristers include:

  • 2 ¼ hour weekly rehearsals on Mondays (6:15 pm to 8:30 pm) at Princeton Day School
  • Saturday afternoon "sing-ins" and workshops (generally 2-3 per year)
  • 1-hour sectional rehearsals (generally 4 per year)
  • pre-concert rehearsals
  • winter and spring concerts
  • a 1-to-2 day fall retreat

Additional performance opportunities often arise during the year. Participation will always be encouraged but not necessarily required.

Concert Choir girls may audition for the select 20-voice PGC Ensemble, a group that performs for community events, weddings, etc. where a smaller ensemble is appropriate. Additional time commitment is required.
