The Grace Notes (GN) is the Princeton Girlchoir's introductory training
ensemble. The girls are introduced to the beginning stages of vocal
development through the study of breath management and promotion of good
intonation. Vocal range, shaping of vowels, tone production, and diction are
also explored. Music reading is introduced with the help of Solfege and is
an important component of this choir's musicianship training.
In addition to performing a diverse repertoire utilizing unison and
part singing, the group helps choristers acquire an ability to work
(sing) together as an ensemble and foster poise and confidence through
singing. The Grace Notes and Semi-Tones study and perform together
during the year promoting a greater sense of ensemble singing, thus
affording a smoother transition between the two training groups.
Time commitment expectations for all Grace Note choristers include:
-
60-minute weekly rehearsals on Tuesdays at Princeton Day School
-
Saturday afternoon "sing-ins" and workshops (generally 1-2 per year)
-
pre-concert rehearsals
-
winter and spring concerts
Additional performance opportunities often arise during the
year. Participation will always be encouraged but not necessarily
required.
